How to take care of your dubia roaches
Storage
- Depending on your order, you may want to buy three containers/ bins for each colony. One will be for breeding the roaches, one for a rearing tub for the nymphs the roaches produce, and the last one would be for cleaning. (This is recommended not required). The bins accompanies the sizes of the roaches as they will get bigger and need more space.
- Choose a container with smooth sides and a lid, therefore the roaches cannot escape. Glass is not recommended as it can be heavy and may cause some accidents including broken glass. A screen may also be helpful in order to have a ventilation for them. Also add an egg crate flat for the roaches to climb on.
- Ideally keep the roaches around 85 degrees Fahrenheit, their fertility will be kept constant at higher temperatures. However, do not put any light bulbs or other sources of heat inside the container.
Food
- We do offer a package of food for the roaches. However, if you wish not to purchase, provide water and any source of fresh food. Whatever the food/water is in should be rough in order for the roaches to climb around it and get nutrients from the food. Regarding food, fresh fruits and vegetables are ideal (oranges, apples, bananas, potatoes, etc). Avoid giving the roaches moldy food and high protein foods, as both can be toxic for them.
Cleaning
- The container in which the roaches are kept in need to be cleaned at least every week.
